Pakistani journalist Talha Zaheer takes a look at racial attitudes in the Indian subcontinent. This article points out a lot of the things I wrote about earlier on the blog here. Check out Zaheer’ post at Dawn News:

Packages from Lahore Have Arrived!

Posted in pakistan post by expatheather on October 14, 2009
After 6 months of waiting, last week I was lamenting our half-empty book case and wondering if our packages sent via Pakistan Post would ever arrive or if they had been lost somewhere in the sea. We sent 6 packages in April and May 2009, and until today only two of them have been received. We got the first two packages in June, so we were expecting the remaining four to follow shortly. When they didn’t come by September, we started to think they had been lost or not sent at all. Last week I said a quick prayer for our packages, as I believed there was no earthly way they were going to make it. Just today we received the news that all four of our remaining packages have arrived! I’m feeling a mix of excitement, since the packages actually made it, and dread, since once our packages arrived via the Pakistan Post completely waterlogged as if they’d fallen off the ship. In any case, praise the Lord for getting our packages to this side of the globe!

Travel Itinerary: Two Days in Lahore

If I had two days to show you around Lahore, this is the plan I’d follow.

Lahore, former seat of Mughal splendor, still beats as the cultural center of Pakistan. In this teeming city of over 7 million souls, there are not only great opportunities for sightseeing but for looking back in time. The most fascinating thing about the city is its juxtaposed existence. Skyscrapers are being built while old, toothless men ply their wares by simple wooden donkey carts

Lahore Travel Itinerary: Day 1

Not many things open before 10:00am in Lahore, so enjoy sleeping in and start your day off at Anarkali Bazaar in the Old City. This is a great place to try your hand at bartering, get some ready-made Pakistani clothes, and pick up some souvenirs. You can get to Anarkali by riding Daewoo local bus #5. It’s impossible to know where you are if you don’t know the city, so just ask the driver or a friendly passenger to let you know when your stop has arrived. You can also take a rickshaw. Keep in mind that only CNG rickshaws can drive on Mall Road, the main road that leads to Anarkali.
